Seasons of the Prairie

Spring
When spring comes to the prairie, young green leaves shoot up through the black soil and the first wildflowers bloom. Their small and dainty blossoms appear only a few inches above the ground and last just a few days. Rue anemone, trillium, wild geranium, prairie betony, wild hyacinth, shooting star and Indian paintbrush are some of the flowers of spring. Song birds fly about and begin building nests.
