People on the Prairie
Who were the first prairie dwellers? Native American people followed the retreat of the Ice Age glaciers northward into the Illinois grasslands as early as 8,000 B.C. Fox, Sac, Miami and Potawatomi were some of many tribes that lived in the Illinois Country up to the coming of settlers.
