Project Goals and Purpose -- Prairie Triangle

map by John O'Lear, Forest Preserve Dist. of Cook Co.

The prairie triangle was the most degraded part of the property and the ideal location to introduce native landscaping as a replacement for Eurasian turf grass.

The gradual conversion of turf grass lawn to native prairie plantings is creating a blueprint for the introduction of native landscaping techniques in residential settings.

The goals are to make the area more rainfall absorbant, establish wildlife habitat and create a visual setting that demonstrates the beauty of native plants.
